Every year, Apple surprises its users with innovative upgrades to the iPhone’s camera system. The launch of the iPhone 16 series promises even more impressive advancements. With just two months left until the expected release of the iPhone 16, a key rumor about the iPhone 16 Pro’s camera has gained credibility due to a recent supplier report.
iPhone 16 Pro to Feature Max-Exclusive Camera Technology
Last year, the iPhone 15 Pro Max stood out with its unique camera feature: a quad-prism periscope lens, which allowed up to 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom. This significantly enhanced the zoom capabilities compared to previous models.
Recent reports indicate that this powerful lens will be available on the smaller iPhone 16 Pro model this fall. A new report provides strong evidence supporting this change.
Supplier Insights
According to Janet Kang from Digitimes, Apple will expand the use of periscope lenses in its upcoming iPhone lineup. Taiwanese lens module makers Largan Precision and Genius Electronic Optics (GSEO) are expected to be key suppliers for this technology, according to industry insiders.
Largan, which supplied periscope lenses for last year’s iPhone 15 Pro Max, will see more models in the upcoming iPhone series equipped with these lenses. GSEO may join as a new supplier for this year’s iPhone.
The increase in production and the addition of new suppliers for periscope lenses suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro will upgrade from the 3x optical zoom of the 15 Pro to the 5x optical zoom currently exclusive to the Max series.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 5x zoom received such positive reviews last year that many users of the smaller Pro model considered switching to the larger Max. However, the significant increase in the display size of the Pro Max can be a major adjustment for some users.
While the iPhone 16 Pro Max may still feature new exclusive camera technologies, it is hoped that both Pro models will eventually offer the same camera capabilities. This way, users can choose their preferred screen size without compromising on special camera features.
