According to foreign media reports on September 19, Apple’s iPhone 16 series has achieved a major breakthrough in repairability. Although it did not mention much about this at the press conference, reports from Engadget and Tom’s Guide revealed this important change.

According to reports, Apple used an innovative “ionic liquid” battery adhesive in the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, replacing the previously difficult-to-handle adhesive strips, making the battery replacement process faster and safer. At the same time, camera repairs have also become simpler, and users can now seamlessly switch between different devices without worrying about safety or privacy issues.

In addition, Apple has launched the “Repair Assistant”, which enables customers and independent repair shops to more easily configure new and old parts without having to contact Apple for pairing. The iOS 18 update allows users to run diagnostic tools directly on the device to quickly locate faulty components.

It is worth mentioning that Apple has also significantly expanded its support for third-party and second-hand parts, allowing second-hand parts to be officially calibrated through cloud servers and marked as “second-hand” in device repair records. Although third-party parts still cannot be officially calibrated, the iPhone 16 will activate and fully utilize the functions of these parts as much as possible. Foreign media pointed out that these changes mark an important step for Apple in terms of repairability.
