According to Google, Android has begun rolling out an updated Privacy Dashboard that gives users even more control over permissions apps get. This was available solely in the Android 16 developer preview, and its rollout to all other phones running Android 15 began on the November 2024 Google Play system update. It’s accessible to Pixel users if they go to Settings > Security & privacy > System & updates.
The updated Privacy Dashboard still retains its 24-hour permissions activity view but with the added feature of allowing the user to display activities over the last seven days as well. This is accessible via a three-dot menu at the top right corner of the screen, allowing users to switch between them easily. The pie chart stays, but permissions such as Location, Camera, and Microphone now have a detailed timeline view upon clicking the respective icons.
Another option is a “Manage permissions” button at the bottom of the timeline so that users can revoke permissions for apps that unnecessarily access sensitive data, thus making it easier for users to protect their privacy by ensuring apps only access what they need.
The rollout of this update also accentuates the rapid pace of Google’s development cycle for Android. It follows soon after the stable launch of Android 15, which the Android 16 developer previews as it marks a noteworthy acceleration of the software timeline. The first beta will emerge next month with more features and improvements.
