Android and iOS have been borrowing features from each other for years, with Android winning on customization and Apple on seamless device integration. Samsung is now closing this gap with its next One UI 7 update, bringing a valuable new feature inspired by Apple’s ecosystem.
The Galaxy Book already supports Quick Share for wireless file transfers and allows copying and pasting text between devices. But with One UI 7, Samsung has added a new Camera Continuity feature, further expanding cross-device functionality. Users can snap photos or scan documents on their Galaxy phone and then immediately insert them into Samsung Notes or Samsung Internet on another device.
This feature strongly resembles Apple’s Continuity Camera, which lets users directly add photos and scans from an iPhone or iPad into any Mac application. However, the latter is more versatile because it works across all apps, whereas the former only applies to first-party software.
Interestingly is also a change to Samsung’s “Continue on other devices” feature, which implies wider support for apps in the future. The feature is already available for Samsung Notes and Samsung Internet; however, according to Android Authority, Mishaal Rahman reports that the new One UI 7 beta may unlock this ability for more apps in the future, which would require an update on existing Galaxy Books as well as other Samsung devices.
For the Camera Continuity feature to take effect, the Galaxy devices would need to be connected through the same Wi-Fi, within Bluetooth range, and shared across the same Samsung account. In this regard, it’s less of Apple’s, but certainly a good stride towards a better Samsung Ecosystem; its devices should make each other more interconnected and intuitive.
