Apple Could Launch Its Own TV If Smart Home Hub Is a Success

By November 18, 2024No Comments2 min read

Apple is considering launching its own branded television, a development that could further strengthen its play in the smart home space. According to Mark Gurman’s “Power On” newsletter, the company is studying the ability to create an Apple TV. Something, however, which is far from being a recent innovation: Apple had considered launching a TV between 2009 and 2011 before it had to bury it on the pretext of lousy-selling propositions.

Apple TV and HomeKit Integration

The rekindling of interest on the part of Apple, however, cannot come at a better time than when the HomeKit ecosystem has really taken off. The company now offers a wide variety of interconnected devices, and integrating a TV makes so much sense. The would-be Apple TV most likely integrates with HomeKit so one can even control other smart home devices directly from the TV. That may be so, but the TV itself was probably not destined to be the central controller for smart home devices: Apple is reportedly developing a distinct smart home hub with a limited display to serve as that central controller.

The key difference here, it seems, is Apple’s supposed smart home hub-the name essentially describing a wall-mounted device intended to function as the control center of its HomeKit ecosystem. It can then open other accessories the consumers may accept if properly compatible with the hub, such as the TV. Little information has been shown regarding the design and specifications of the TV. This matter is yet to be confirmed by the company. At the moment, it waits to see what consumers have to say about the smart home hub of Apple TV.
