Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has started a new procedure that would deactivate SIM cards of late people. Data Verification: NADRA will provide PTA with updated information on deceased persons, including certificates of death.
SIM Identification: PTA will identify currently active SIMs registered under such persons.
Notification: Families will be notified beforehand. SIMs would not be deactivated during this period. There will be enough time given to individuals to act or change their numbers.
De-activation: If the family takes no action, telecom operators deactivate the SIMs after a specified time.
This would ensure that families will have the option to transfer numbers while PTA will be able to prevent misuse effectively.
